When food just feels too much...

There are days when food just feels like too much.
Not because you don’t understand it…
but because your thoughts around it feel louder than everything else.
I struggled with this a lot.
It would make me feel so low, and I honestly felt like I was just going round in circles all the time. Like no matter what I did, I kept ending up back in the same place with the same thoughts.
Overthinking everything.
Questioning what I’d eaten.
Feeling guilt I couldn’t even fully explain.
And it’s exhausting.
If you feel like this, I just want you to know you’re not alone 🤍
There was a time where food felt overwhelming for me most days.
Every meal came with pressure, rules, and thoughts that just wouldn’t switch off.
But it doesn’t always stay that way.
Recovery isn’t about suddenly feeling okay with everything overnight.
It’s about slowly creating a safer space with food, one small step at a time.
Some days that might look like: eating even when it feels uncomfortable, not trying to “make up for” what you’ve had, letting a thought be there without acting on it and those small things matter more than you think.
You’re not going backwards just because it still feels hard.
You’re not failing because the thoughts are still there.
You don’t have to fix everything all at once.
You don’t have to do this perfectly.
You just have to keep going. If today feels overwhelming, be gentle with yourself.
Even being here, reading this, is a step forward.
I’ve created some gentle tools that helped me through these exact feelings,
and they’re on my website if you feel like you need a bit of extra support 🤍
With Love, Niomi 🤎
